Frequently asked

What does “guest-friendly” mean?

+
A hotel that lets you bring an unregistered adult guest back to your room without charging a fee or refusing her at the desk. Most budget and mid-range hotels near the bar streets of Pattaya, Angeles City and Phnom Penh are; some chains and resorts are not or charge a joiner fee. Policies change, so ask.

What is a joiner fee?

+
An extra-person charge some hotels add when a guest who is not registered stays the night — typically $10–30 where it exists (฿500–1,000, ₱500–1,500) as of August 2026. Most hotels we list charge nothing. It is often dressed up as “extra breakfast”. Check at booking and again at check-in.

How do I know if a hotel is guest-friendly before I book?

+
Check our hotel pages, which record the policy as reported, then email the hotel directly and ask “Do you charge a joiner fee for a guest?” — a straight question gets a straight answer. Recent booking-site reviews mention it too. When in doubt, pick a hotel within a block of the bars; they are in the business.

Why does the hotel keep her ID?

+
For your protection and theirs: holding a guest’s ID card at reception is standard practice in guest-friendly hotels across Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia, and it is the single best deterrent against theft. A woman who refuses to leave ID is telling you something. Never hand over your own passport as a substitute.

Should I book ahead or walk in?

+
Book the first three nights, then decide. Booking sites are usually cheapest for short stays; for a week or more, ask the hotel for a direct or long-stay rate once you have seen the room. Book well ahead for Christmas to Songkran in Thailand, and for Halloween, the balloon fiesta and New Year in Angeles.
