Beer in the go-go rooms is $3.50–5 (฿120–170), ladies’ drinks $5–7.50 (฿170–250), roughly 15–20% under Walking Street, and the crowd is expats and repeat visitors rather than tour groups. Soi 6 is a short street between Beach Road and Second Road in north Pattaya lined end to end with around a hundred small open-fronted bars. It is the least subtle street in Thailand, and the easiest place to understand how everything works.

Walking Street in Pattaya is the pedestrianized half-mile at the south end of Beach Road where most of the city’s go-go bars and big nightclubs are. Cars are banned from early evening, there is usually no cover at the go-go bars, a beer inside runs $4.50–6 (฿150–200), ladies’ drinks $6.50–9 (฿220–300), and it is busiest 22:00–02:00. Loud, touristy and still the best single night out in Southeast Asia.

Beach Road (Pattaya Sai 1) is the one-way seafront road running about 2 miles (3 km) from the Dolphin roundabout in north Pattaya to Walking Street in the south, with the beach and promenade on one side and hotels, malls, beer bars and numbered sois on the other. Baht buses run its length for $0.50 (฿15–20). It is the city’s spine by day and, after dark, a stretch known for freelancers along the promenade.

Perimeter Road, officially Don Juico Avenue, runs along the Clark Freeport fence from the west end of Fields Avenue to Friendship Highway. It is the cheaper, older-crowd alternative to Walking Street: beer bars and a few go-go rooms in clusters over about 1.2 miles (2 km), many open from lunchtime. Friendship Highway runs west from Clark’s Friendship Gate through Barangay Anunas, and the stretch nearest Clark is Korea Town: 200-plus Korean restaurants, groceries, saunas, hotels and KTV bars. It is an eating-and-singing district, not a go-go strip — the hostess trade here is Korean-style, in private rooms. Korean BBQ $8–12 (₱450–700) a head, KTV rooms from about $10 (₱600) an hour plus drinks, as of August 2026. Ten minutes by trike from Walking Street.

Jomtien is the 4-mile (6 km) beach and resort strip immediately south of Pattaya over Pratumnak hill, 10–15 minutes by baht bus from Walking Street. The beach is wider and cleaner than Pattaya’s, the crowd is families, retirees and Russians, and the nightlife is smaller: the Rompho bar complex, the Jomtien Complex bar square, and beer bars along Jomtien Second Road. Beer is $2–3 (฿60–100). Stay here if you want a beach day and a quiet night; visit Pattaya for the scene.

The central District 1 blocks around Lam Son Square, Dong Khoi and the pedestrianized Nguyen Hue boulevard hold Saigon’s rooftop bars and its late clubs. The Caravelle’s Saigon Saigon Bar has poured since 1959 and the Rex’s Rooftop Garden Bar since the war; sky bars, the Cafe Apartment and a cluster of clubs off Thi Sach and Ly Tu Trong do the rest. Little Tokyo is the Japanese quarter of District 1: Le Thanh Ton street and the alleys at 15A and 15B, plus Thai Van Lung, Ngo Van Nam and Thi Sach. Behind the izakayas and ramen counters sit karaoke rooms, spas and hostess clubs serving a resident Japanese community. Prices are high and rarely posted, some venues in practice prefer Japanese customers, and the alley entrance on Le Thanh Ton closes around 22:00 while the Thai Van Lung end stays open. Ask the price of everything first.

Nana Plaza is a three-story, U-shaped complex of roughly 30–40 go-go bars around an open courtyard on Sukhumvit Soi 4, five minutes’ walk from BTS Nana. Bars open around 19:00 and the Sukhumvit zone closes legally at 02:00. Beers inside run about $4.50–7 (฿150–250) and ladies’ drinks $6–9 (฿200–300) as of August 2026. No cover charge anywhere. It is the biggest, loudest and most convenient go-go scene in the city, and the one we send a first-timer to.

Poblacion is the old town of Makati and, since about 2015, the most concentrated ordinary nightlife district in the Philippines: seventy-plus rooftop bars, cocktail rooms, craft-beer taps, dive bars and small clubs within a few blocks either side of P. Burgos Street. Beers are $3–6 (₱150–300), cocktails $6–10, covers $0–20 as of August 2026. It is where Manila’s young professionals, expats and Filipinas out with friends actually drink — and the best place in the capital to meet a woman who is not working.

Soi Cowboy is a 150-metre lane of around 40 go-go bars running between Sukhumvit Soi 21 (Asok) and Soi 23, five minutes from BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit. Bars open around 19:00 and close at 02:00 (the legal Sukhumvit close). Beers are about $5–6 (฿160–200) and ladies’ drinks $6.50–8 (฿220–260) as of August 2026, with no cover. It is smaller and calmer than Nana Plaza, with tables in the street and the best neon in the city.

Street 104 is a compact bar block running inland from Sisowath Quay between the main post office and the river, with about a dozen hostess bars within fifty metres of each other. It sits inside the Riverside strip, where the Quay’s pubs, rooftop bars and 16:30–19:30 happy hours run the length of the waterfront. Drinks are $1.50–3 in the bars and $3–7 on the rooftops (Aug 2026). Start here at sunset, finish on 104.

It is a normal night out — tourists, expats and Thai women who go out — with cocktails around $9–14 (฿300–500), club entry $9–18 (฿300–600) usually including a drink, and a legal close of 02:00. It is where you take a date, and the best place in Bangkok to meet women who do not work in a bar.

Bui Vien is the bar street of the Pham Ngu Lao backpacker quarter in District 1, a few hundred metres of open-fronted bars, hostels, street food and neon. It goes pedestrian-only Friday to Sunday from about 19:00 to 02:00 and runs with traffic the rest of the week. Beer is $1–2.50 (₫25,000–60,000) and cocktails $3–6 (Aug 2026), there is no cover, and the crowd is young. It is the most visible nightlife in Saigon and the least representative.

Mactan is the flat coral island across the bridges from Cebu City, holding the international airport, Lapu-Lapu City and the resort beach strip along Maribago and Punta Engaño. Nightlife is resort bars, a handful of beach clubs and a few standalone rooms — quiet by Philippine standards and closing early. It is the daytime half of a Cebu trip: island hopping, diving and a pool with a sea view, 30–60 minutes from the city.

Mango Square is the entertainment complex on General Maxilom Avenue — “Mango Avenue” to everyone in Cebu — and the blocks around it are the city’s traditional nightlife strip. Clubs run from about 21:00 to 04:00 on Friday and Saturday, KTVs and bikini bars from early evening to 02:00. Beer is $1.60–2.60 (₱90–150) and a ladies’ drink $3.50–6 (₱200–350) as of August 2026. The crowd is local rather than touristy, and three nights covers the whole strip.

P. Burgos Street is the main go-go and hostess-bar strip in Metro Manila, running roughly 400 metres through Poblacion, Makati, between Makati Avenue and Kalayaan Avenue. Street 51 and the lanes off it are where Phnom Penh goes after the bars shut. Heart of Darkness has traded since 1993 and Pontoon sits around the corner on Street 172; both usually run to 03:00 or later with no or low entry, and the freelancer crowd arrives after midnight. The Golden Sorya Mall that used to anchor the block was fenced off in October 2022 and demolished, and the street is quieter and cleaner for it.

Khao San Road is a 400-metre pedestrian party street in Banglamphu, in Bangkok’s old royal district, 30–45 minutes by taxi from Sukhumvit and not on the train network. It is open-air bars, buckets of cheap spirits ($4.50–9, ฿150–300), big beers at $2.50–4 (฿90–140) and a crowd mostly in their twenties. Bars close around 02:00, earlier some nights. Worth an evening if you are sightseeing nearby; not a place for a man our age to meet anyone.

Patong Beach is the 1.8-mile (2.9 km) crescent of sand on Phuket’s west coast that Bangla Road runs into. It is the busiest beach on the island: loungers in designated zones, jet-skis and parasailing at the northern end, restaurants and beach bars along Thaweewong Road behind. Sunsets are excellent, the water is calm from November to April and dangerous in the monsoon, and everything shuts early — the night happens one block inland.

Seminyak

Seminyak is the upmarket beach district immediately north of Legian, built around Jalan Kayu Aya (“Eat Street”), Jalan Petitenget and the beach clubs on the sand behind them. The evening starts at sunset with a $8–14 cocktail and finishes at a restaurant rather than a dance floor. Older, richer and quieter than Kuta, more mixed and less nomad-heavy than Canggu, and the best base in Bali for a man over forty.

Bangla Road is the 400-metre pedestrian strip in Patong that holds essentially all of Phuket’s nightlife: open-air beer bars along the middle, go-go bars up the side sois and on the first floors, and three or four big nightclubs. It closes to traffic around 18:00, runs to 02:00 or later, and a beer is $3–5.50 (฿100–180) — the priciest bar beer in Thailand. Busy and fun in high season, thin from May to October.

Blok M is the shopping and nightlife quarter of Kebayoran Baru in South Jakarta, built around Jalan Falatehan and Jalan Melawai. It was the foreigners’ night out in Jakarta for twenty-five years; most of those bars have closed and what replaced them is a mix of survivors, the Japanese izakaya and karaoke rooms of Little Tokyo, and the young Indonesian crowd at M Bloc Space. Beer $2–4.50 (Rp30,000–75,000), walkable, on the MRT, and the cheapest night out in the city.

Canggu is the eight-kilometre (five-mile) stretch of dark-sand coast north of Seminyak — Berawa, Batu Bolong, Echo Beach and Pererenan — that has gone from rice paddies to Bali’s expat and digital-nomad capital since about 2015. Beach clubs and craft-beer bars rather than nightclubs, an average age around thirty, closing times enforced by the village councils, and traffic that makes a two-mile trip take forty minutes. Great for a fit, social man; a long way from everything else.

Changkat Bukit Bintang

Changkat Bukit Bintang is a short, steep street of restored pre-war shophouses running off Jalan Bukit Bintang in central Kuala Lumpur, and it holds most of the bars in Malaysia worth the walk. Irish and British pubs, whisky and cocktail rooms, tapas and Latin bars, a couple of small clubs. Beer $5–7 (RM20–30), cocktails $9–15, no cover at most doors, busiest 21:00–01:00. The Jalan Alor food street is one block downhill.

Jalan P. Ramlee is a short road in the Golden Triangle behind the Petronas Towers, named in 1982 after Malaysia’s great actor-director and lined with pubs and nightclubs since the 1990s. Live bands, big rooms, covers of $0–12 (RM0–50) and drinks at $6–10, running from about 21:00 to 03:00. Louder and more mixed than Changkat, and much diminished since the big clubs moved out to the TREC complex.

Kuta and Legian are the adjoining beach suburbs immediately north of Denpasar airport, and Jalan Legian, the road that links them, is the busiest and cheapest nightlife street in Indonesia. Multi-floor clubs, Irish and Aussie pubs, live-band bars and the two Poppies Lanes; beer $2.50–4.50 (Rp40,000–70,000), entry usually free, loud from about 23:00 to 03:00. No go-go bars, no bar-girl street, and a crowd that skews under thirty.

SCBD is the office-tower district off Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in South Jakarta; Senopati and Gunawarman are the restaurant-and-bar streets behind it. Together they hold the best-looking nightlife in Indonesia — rooftops, cocktail rooms and nightclubs — with drinks at $6–13 (Rp100,000–200,000), covers of $6–19 on club nights, real dress codes and a crowd that is mostly Indonesian professionals. Thursday to Saturday, from about 22:00 to 03:00 or 04:00.

Ta Hien is Hanoi’s beer street: a short Old Quarter lane whose junction with Luong Ngoc Quyen is packed every evening with plastic stools, bia hoi taps and street food. A glass of fresh bia hoi is about ₫10,000–15,000 (40–60 cents) and a bottled beer $1–2 (Aug 2026). It runs from about 18:00 until the police move everyone on around midnight, and the crowd is overwhelmingly young. Cheap, cheerful and not a pick-up street.

Tay Ho is the district wrapped around West Lake, four kilometres north of the Old Quarter, and it is where Hanoi’s Western expat community lives. Its bars run along Xuan Dieu and the lakeside streets of Quang An: craft breweries, wine bars, sports bars and restaurants, with drinks $2–7 (Aug 2026). It is the one part of Hanoi where a Western man over forty is in the right room, and the one part where you might meet an English-speaking Hanoian professional.

Mangga Besar

Mangga Besar is an old entertainment district in Taman Sari, West Jakarta, on the fringe of the Glodok Chinatown. It has been a nightlife quarter since the Dutch era and today it holds karaoke and KTV rooms, clubs, massage houses, one of the best late-night street-food runs in the city and a growing cluster of Italian restaurants. The clientele is almost entirely local, very little English is spoken and prices are opaque. Worth knowing about; not where we would send a visitor.

Malate, with neighbouring Ermita, was the nightlife district for foreigners in Manila from the 1970s until the scene moved to Makati in the 2000s. As of August 2026 it is declining but not dead: a handful of pubs, live-music bars and a club around Remedios Circle and Adriatico Street, KTVs and a well-known 24-hour freelancer café on M.H. del Pilar, beers from $1.50–3 (₱60–150). Cheaper and grittier than Makati, with more care needed after midnight.

Patpong is two parallel lanes between Silom and Surawong roads in Bang Rak, Bangkok’s first purpose-built nightlife district and once home to around 30 go-go bars. As of August 2026 fewer than ten are reported still trading, the night market (about 17:00–midnight) draws more visitors than the bars, and the Silom zone has a legal 04:00 close. Beers about $4–5.50 (฿140–180). Worth an hour for the history; not where we would spend a night.

Barrio Barretto is a beachfront barangay of Olongapo about six kilometres north of the Subic freeport gate, and its stretch of the National Highway is the whole nightlife of Subic Bay: open-fronted bars, live-music rooms and expat restaurants along a kilometre you can walk in fifteen minutes. Beer runs $1.75–2.65 (₱100–150) and a ladies’ drink $3–5 (₱170–280) as of August 2026, there is no cover charge anywhere, and most of the strip is quiet by one in the morning.

EDSA Entertainment Complex

The EDSA Entertainment Complex is a single low-rise building on EDSA Extension in Pasay, near Roxas Boulevard and 15–20 minutes from the airport, that has housed a cluster of hostess clubs, bikini bars and KTVs under one roof since the 1990s. Its two best-known anchor venues were marked permanently closed on listing sites in 2025 and we could not confirm what is trading in August 2026 — treat it as unverified and go only if someone has been recently.
