Hotel Durban is the sensible cheap option in Poblacion: a small, plain, well-run hotel on Durban Street, one block off Makati Avenue and about three minutes on foot from the head of P. Burgos. It has 36 rooms, no pool, no gym, no restaurant, and a lift that two people and a suitcase will find crowded. What it does have is a clean room with working air conditioning, a fridge, a safe big enough for a laptop, and a nightly rate that starts around $21 (₱1,200) — a quarter of what the tower up the road charges.
The rooms are the thing to understand before you book. Most of them have no window. Guests who arrive expecting a view are disappointed; guests who wanted to sleep through a Saturday in Poblacion are delighted, because a windowless interior room in this district is a soundproof box. Beds are comfortable, the cable TV carries a surprising range of channels, and housekeeping and reception get named and thanked in review after review through 2025 and 2026, which for a hotel at this price is the whole ball game.
Location is the second reason to book it. Everything in Poblacion — the rooftops, the speakeasies, the Korean barbecue, the 24-hour diners — is within five minutes, P. Burgos Street is three, and a Grab to Greenbelt is $2–3. You are not walking anywhere else in Manila, but you are not meant to be.
The honest caveats: in-room wifi is patchy, the lift is slow, and there is nowhere in the building to sit other than your room. And we could not find a clear, current statement of the visitor policy from the hotel or from a source we trust, so we have left it as “ask.” Poblacion budget hotels are generally relaxed about a registered visitor with ID, but do not assume — call or message before you book if it matters to you, and read how guest-friendly works.
